Delgado victorious at final round of YXZ1000R Cup Spain ahead of SuperFinale
The YXZ1000R Cup Spain came to a thrilling end last weekend with the sixth round of the national cup at the Rally TT Villa de Zuera on 5-6 October, with Stock class champion Pedro Delgado taking victory for the fifth time.
Held alongside the Spanish Buggies Nacionales series the rally gave Delgado and newly-crowned Open class champion José Luis García their final competitive running before the season-ending SuperFinale during the Baja Portalegre 500 in Portalegre, Portugal on 24-26 October.
At the wheel of his Stock YXZ1000R with co-driver Guifré Pujol, Delgado was in commanding form all weekend across the 373 km Rally TT Villa de Zuera as he took a fifth win in the YXZ1000R Cup Spain, and an impressive overall second place in the Buggies Nacionales.
Second in the Stock class went to Ramón Vidal, competing with his father Francisco Javier Vidal as co-driver, ahead of Edesio Caamaño and David Conde who completed the podium. With the title already decided, Vidal’s strong result moved him from fifth to third place in the YXZ1000R Spain Cup rankings, behind Caamaño-Conde. Both teams also secured top ten finishes in the Buggies Nacionales, taking sixth and eighth respectively.
In the Ooen category for modified Side-by-Sides, José Luis García and co-driver Xevi Moreno remained on top in the rally, with runner-up in the championship split between Juan López-José Antonio Álvarez and Yago de Prado-Álvaro Moya, tied on 147 points. Prado-Moya were set to consolidate second place before they were forced to retire from the rally, after a technical issue in the second road section of the race.
For Delgado and Garcia the highly-anticipated YXZ1000R European Cup SuperFinale now beckons, where the Spanish representatives will compete alongside the national YXZ1000R champions from the other six nations taking part in the Cup: Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Israel. The winner of the Stock category will receive a brand new YXZ1000R, while the Open winner will receive a free entry to the Dakar Series Merzouga Rally in April 2020.
