Marrini conquers Rally di San Marino

The second round of the Italian YXZ1000R Cup saw the Stock class pairing of Stefano Marrini and co-driver Bruno Fedullo take their maiden YXZ1000R victory at the Rally di San Marino, held alongside the Italian Gravel Rally Championship on 13-14 July.

The rally was officially opened on Friday night at the Viale Ceccarini in Riccione. Racing began early on Saturday, consisting of three demanding laps on stages around the San Marino hills. The final special stage finished on Saturday night, with a charge to the top of the famous Guaita Fortress where the awards ceremony was held.

The thirteen-hour race featured a three-way battle for victory. The Amerigo and Icaro Ventura outfit initially led the race, but were demoted to second in the final standings due to a penalty resulting from a control time error. This opened the way for Marrini-Fedullo, delivering a spectacular performance of their own, to take the lead ahead of Alessandro and Emiliano Tinaburri.

It was a hard-fought contest that saw the gaps between competitors fluctuate for the entire race, but the tenth and final stage proved to be decisive when Marrini-Fedullo pulled out all the stops to win the stage and the rally. Tinaburri-Tinaburri finished a strong second, just 1 minute 4 seconds behind the leaders, with Ventura-Ventura third.

Following the rally results, Marrini-Fedullo won the Stock class and lead their category after their first win in the YXZ1000R Cup Italy, ahead of Gianluca Bosio and co-driver Monica Galesi and Ventura-Ventura. Tinaburri-Tinaburri won the Open class with the second place, and are now tied for the lead in the category with the pairing of Mauro Vagaggini and Manuela Perissinotti.

The YXZ1000R Cup Italy returns at the Adria International Raceway on 2-3 August.
