Ventura Storms Into Championship Lead After Baja Italia Victory

Ventura Storms Into Championship Lead After Baja Italia Victory

Quaddy Racing's Amerigo Ventura and co-driver Mirko Brun secured their second consecutive victory in the T4 class at Round 3 of the FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas to take the overall lead in the championship.

The Quaddy Racing team followed up their T4 win at the Greece Rally Offroad in May with another strong performance at their home race, the Baja Italia, that took place over three days in Pordenone, Italy. Faced with over 400km of Baja action across the beds of the Tagliamento and Cosa rivers, the duo of Ventura and Brun immediately hit the ground running in the 15km prologue to qualify first in their class and inside the overall top ten.

The following day consisted of over 260km split between two special stages. The Quaddy Racing Team attacked right from the start to end the morning quickest, despite being affected by the dust being kicked up by their competitors due to the dry conditions. After a short 30-minute turnaround which allowed them to adjust their setup to the challenging terrain, the Italian pairing took on the second special of the day and once again pushed hard to end the stage first in their class.

On the third day, they pushed their Yamaha YXZ1000R fitted with the GYTR Racing Kit to the limit during the final stage, keeping their competitors at bay to power to their second victory of the season in the FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas T4 class, second in the FIA Cross Country World Cup T4 category, and fifth in the overall classification.

The result means they now lead the T4 category in the FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas with 110 points and hold a 39-point advantage over their closest rival with just two rounds left in the season. Up next for the Quaddy Racing team and their GYTR-kitted YXZ1000R is round 4, the Hungarian Baja on the 4th-7th of August.

“It was great to put in another strong performance, especially at our home race. We gave it absolutely everything and pushed to the limit, and the YXZ100R performed superbly, despite the tricky terrain. Right from the prologue, we attacked every stage and despite the dusty conditions making it more challenging, we managed to secure the 2022 FIA Baja European Cup T4 class victory and take the lead in the championship standings. We can't wait to get back in action at the Hungarian Baja in August!”
