Ventura Takes Second Place Finish in Baja Extremadura with GYTR Racing Kit YXZ1000R

Quaddy Racing's Amerigo Ventura and co-driver Mirko Brun continued their 2022 season with a strong second place finish in the FIA T4 category at the Baja TT Extremadura, on board the Yamaha YXZ1000R fitted with the GYTR Racing Kit.

Having kicked off their 2022 campaign with a superb victory at the Italian Baja di Primavera, Ventura returned for the FIA European Cup for Cross Country Bajas event held in southwest Spain.

Taking place from Friday 29 April – Sunday 1 May, the Baja saw the competitors navigate through tough terrain across the Extremadura region, close to the Portuguese border. The event kicked off with a Prologue in Badajoz on Friday, which would set the running order for Saturday’s start. Ventura ended the 6 km dash in fourth, but was less than two seconds off top spot in a tight front group.

Italian pairing Ventura and Brun joined their fellow T4 competitors for the start of the Baja Extremadura. That morning would see them run two stages between Alconchel and Lake Alqueva, the first spanning 94 km, before completing a service ahead of another 84 km stage.

The Quaddy Racing YXZ1000R, fitted with the dedicated GYTR Racing Kit that upgrades the standard version to meet FIA T4 safety regulations, then made good progress throughout the afternoon, which would see them hold onto its second position at the end of Saturday.

On Sunday, the final special stage between the Albuera and Santa Marta saw Ventura and Brun complete another 130 km, but with slippery terrain the pair opted not to take any risks and brought the Yamaha YXZ1000R fitted with the GYTR Racing Kit home in second place.

Miquel Prat Martinez and Sergio Roberto Lafuente brought their same spec YXZ1000R to a third-place finish in the T4 category after a superb final stage.

It was the first time competing in the Baja Extremadura for me and my co-driver. It was an event with beautiful stages, surrounded by nature, while the route itself was very technical and tricky. The thick surrounding foliage and stone walls could have put an end to our adventure if we ever lost our focus. We brought our YXZ1000R to the end of the over 400 km journey with no issues to take second place in the T4 class. We are satisfied by this start to the FIA European Cup, but we can’t relax. The team will continue to help develop our vehicle and we already have our minds on the next round; Baja Greece at the end of this month.
