Baja Almanzora, the first round of the 2019 Yamaha YXZ1000R Cup held in Almería, Spain, was an absolute success. This inaugural race of the CERTT is more than 400 timed kilometers, with 3 Special Stages on Saturday and one long Special Stage on Sunday. Delgado – Pujol took the lead of the race from the first kilometers and they ended up on the top of the podium.
This victory also allowed them to score maximum points in the National and the European YXZ1000R Cup in the Stock category. Second place overall in the Cup and a Special Stage victory went to Rafa Villanueva and his co-pilot Javier Prieto.
Gustavo Sosa and Rogelio Peñat finished in a rewarding third position in their first ever race with a YXZ1000R. In the Open category, aimed at the modified Side-by-Side, Juan López and José Antonio Álvarez took top position.
Team Jordi Serra and Iván Cano, got a penalty in the second special stage, but still managed to finish the race in second place. Jose’ Luis García and Fernando Cuadrado lost their lead due to a technical issue and got to third place. Yago de Prado and Álvaro Moya (son of former rally co-driver Luis Moya), debutants in the category, showed a very high pace and a good potential for the future.
Yamaha YXZ1000R proved to be the most reliable Side-by-Side of the first event of the Spanish Championship. We look forward to the next event, the Rally TT Mar de Olivos, 18-19 of May in Jaén, Spain.
